Holy Trust: Women Together in the Struggle for Justice

Over 60 women in leadership from around North America will be gathering at Church of the Trinity the first weekend of February.  Registration is still available at TrinityMCC.com  The focus of this conference is women empowering women to assume leadership roles in their communities by developing the trusting relationships essential to achieving social justice.

 

Rev. Dr. Nancy Wilson, Moderator of Metropolitan Community Churches and Bishop Yvette Flunder, Presiding Bishop The Fellowship, will explore their journey in building trusting relationships between themselves and their respective communities and movements, and lead the participants in examining the rewards and demands of modeling trust.

 

The Holy Trust Conference is open to women, transwomen and those who identify themselves as women who are interested in improving their leadership skills and connecting with others in the common pursuit for social justice. Register early for a 10% discount.

Bishop Yvette Flunder to visit Church of the Trinity

Recently named by the Huffington Post at one of the nation’s top inspiriting LGBTQ leaders, Bishop Yvette Flunder will be preaching at Church of the Trinity February 5th.  In 1991 Bishop Flunder founded the City of Refuge United Church of Christ in San Francisco for the purpose of uniting gospel and social ministries. City of Refuge is a thriving inner city ministry celebrating the inclusive love of Jesus Christ. In 2003 Flunder was consecrated as Presiding Bishop of The Fellowship, a multi-denominational fellowship of 110 primarily African American Christian leaders and laity representing 56 churches and faith-based organizations from the US, Mexico and Africa.  She is the author of Where the Edge Gathers: A Theology and Homiletic of Radical Inclusion, Pilgrim Press. A popular preacher and speaker she has also served as a lecturer and Adjunct Professor at numerous seminaries. Join us February 5th for this inspiring service and invite a friend!

Celebration of Life Service for Billy Bruce Wagener

Family and friends of Billy Bruce Wagener will gather Saturday January 28th at 2pm to celebrate his life.   Our prayers and support are with his partner of 20 years, John Dorr.  The community is invited to attend and share remembrances.  A reception will follow the service.

Interfaith Open House

Sunday January 29th 3pm, St. Boniface Episcopal Church 5615 Midnight Pass Road, Siesta Key

Saint Boniface Episcopal Church’s Peace and Justice Committee, as members of the Sarasota-Manatee Interfaith Partnership, will host an Open House gathering. It will include an introduction to the Episcopal “family” of the Christian tradition, conversation, Q&A and light refreshments. Bethesda House HIV/AIDS Ministries provide support services for the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of individuals in a compassionate, non-judgmental way. Drop-in services include a food pantry, clothing bank, and a laundry and shower facility. Other services offered are HIV/AIDS psycho-educational groups, professional individual and family counseling, substance abuse counseling, case management, intensive case management, spiritual support groups, transportation assistance, job referral and training, self-sufficiency groups, linking to medical services, financial assistance, support groups and safe social networking. Sign Project Update

Church of the Trinity has contracted with Charles & Chase construction company for the installation of a new 8 foot sign on Lockwood Ridge Road.  The new signage will give us visibility from both northbound and southbound lanes of traffic and will be illuminated at night.  A special thank you to Doug Whitney who has donated his time and expertise toward this project.  Through the generosity of donors $11,500 has been raised toward a total project goal of $15,117.  Construction has begun!  If you are able to make a contribution please designate your check or envelope ‘sign project’.  Thank you for your support as we continue to reach our community with the message of God’s inclusive love!

SignChiDo The Art of Moving Prayer

Wednesday January 25 at 7 p.m.

Come find out how the essentials of breathing, moving and listening come together to form an elegant dance of prayer. The movements are small and can be done in a chair if necessary. Please wear comfortable clothes and footwear. The music is a prayer in itself which is grounding, calming and holy.

Yoga at Church of the Trinity

Join us for a yoga class for beginners January 30th .  The suggested donation for the class is $15.  Sign up in the narthex or contact Rev.
